My day job, please don't tell too many people, is pest management, weird combo, I know:)
It does however give me the inside scoop on how best to manage pests on my indoor plants. I have numerous tools and chemicals at my disposal, but here I am offering you the options that you can use at home, with a few tips that everyone can use.
Sticky traps - get some!
They are great to keep fungus gnat populations down.
Top tips: Place the sticky trap flat down over the soil with the sticky part facing upwards, and only remove the paper on one side at a time.
I have some options available in the shop, just look under Pest Control.
Systemic Insecticide
My go to product is Grosafe Groventive, it is a new generation systemic that controls sucking and chewing insects on house plants, ornamentals, hedging and roses, while being low-toxicity making it safer for bees and beneficial insects.
Systemic insecticides don't have to come in contact with the insect. Instead it is absorbed through the leaf, into the sap of the plant. When an insect tries to suck the sap or chew a part of the plant, they get a dose of insecticide. That means you no longer have to saturate the plant. It may cost more, however with Groventive you normally require only one application, occasionally two, to control even difficult to eradicate pests like scale and mealybugs. Groventive is a systemic insecticide, not a contact insecticide, so won't kill pests instantly on contact or kill the adults. For heavy pest infestations it is best used in conjunction with a contact insecticide.
Groventive treats aphids, mealybugs, scale, thrips, mites, leafhoppers, psyllids, spittlebugs and whiteflies. Use as per label instructions.
